Watching the game last night and Manly's halves, the way they are playing there seems a lot of how joey Johns played, just the little things they are doing, Forans Banana kicks are a replica of joeys and a lot of the Halfback play is rubbing of on Cherry, Foran really taking on the line and setting up his outside men with bullet passes

no matter what you may think of joey johns but he is a godsend to our clubs halves and you really have to admit he was one of the finest halfbacks to ever grace a rugby league firld

you on here again fatso........

One thing Joey did well was continually respond to changes the defence made against him. The current challenge is when players race out of the line to smash Foran. He needs options to make that tactic really hurt the opposition. Maybe an inside runner targeting the gap caused by the defensive torpedo?

At times it's a game of chess.

I agree Berkley,i like joey as a player and a person,he was one of the best for sure and it a pleasure to have him working with our halves and developing them along nicely, they defiitely are learning from the best ;)

We have already used this to our advantage. That try to Turtle from the scrumbase had a lot to do with all those players watching Foran wrapping around the back. They were all worried about Foz and practically ignored Turtle.

I'm looking at these two(the power of two) more in the class of sterling and kenny, if these two players stay together they are a killer duo just like kenny and sterlo were for parrammatta back in the mid 70s. Just think what these two are also doing for stewart at this point in time, they are taking a lot of pressure of him in giving him the chance to regain his form by stepping up and playing the part well in the halves. Dont be mistaken these two are playing a TEAM game and the individual brilliance is just the REWARD for this type of football thats why manly are so good this year.I dont think they are on the lines of johns as dessy will have the say. These two, if they play thier cards right can do much much more damage than johns alone.

And don't forget Gifty on the other side and Brett storming up the middle, like no other team we have options across the park

We have class across the park and the only place we are really lacking is in the front row. That said, we are having no problems making meters, as was evident in the nearly 1800m we made agaist the dishlickers compared to their ~1050m. We are consistently winning the field position stats and the result means 5th tackle options are attacking kicks rather than defensive kicks. This brings the halves into play and with so many options (even Glenn Stewart has a grubber kick that often brings reward) they are able to keep opositions guessing. Success has been had from grubbers, bombs, chips, crossfield kicks and running on the last tackle. Unlike other teams where they can target Benji, Lockyer, Soward, Prince, etc, there is no one player that can be targetted in the Manly side to eliminate options. If Foran or DCE are targetted Lyon or Gifty will make things happen.
