MANLY'S coaches and medical staff will gather this morning to determine whether star fullback Brett Stewart returns from injury against Cronulla this Sunday at Brookvale Oval.

The news comes as the Sea Eagles prepare to be play one match, maybe two, without former Test centre Jamie Lyon. Stewart has not played in 18 weeks through injury but Manly remain hopeful the champion fullback will return this weekend.

If overlooked, Stewart will certainly be back for Manly's final round game against Gold Coast at Brookvale. But Stewart has trained strongly over the past fortnight with team-mates confident he will be named today when Manly release their team sheet this afternoon.

''We will sit down (today) with the club's medical staff and discuss Brett,'' said Manly coach Des Hasler. ''We will see what they have to say before making a final decision.''

Manly were however delighted at the diagnosis Lyon received yesterday. Lyon damaged his shoulder against Melbourne on Sunday with initial fears he could miss six to eight weeks. But club doctors told a relieved Lyon yesterday he would only miss one game.

''He will certainly miss one game but he could be back for the final match, if not certainly the finals,'' said Lyon's manager, George Mimis.

Lyon came from the field in the first half of the Melbourne match with the shoulder injury. But after having a pain-killing injection, Lyon courageously returned and ended up scoring the match-winning try. If Stewart is chosen, fullback Ben Farrar could move to centre to replace Lyon.

Farrar had a wonderful game against the Storm and produced a match-saving tackle on Billy Slater with just 73 seconds remaining. Manly forward Shane Rodney broke his thumb on Sunday and will be out for a month.

Manly centre Jamie Lyon has a right shoulder injury and will miss next Sunday’s round 25 match against the Cronulla Sharks at Brookvale Oval.

Lyon injured his shoulder in yesterday’s win over Melbourne Storm.

Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler said the injury would be re-assessed next week with the possibility Lyon may play in the final round against Gold Coast Titans at Brookvale Oval on Saturday week.

In other injury news second rower Shane Rodney sustained a broken thumb in the Storm game and will be out for three to four weeks.

Brett Stewart is Back.

Manly Sea Eagles fullback Brett Stewart will return for the Sea Eagles this week after missing much of the season with a knee injury. Stewart will slot straight back into his fullback position with outstanding new recruit Ben Farrar moving to the centres in place of the injured Jamie Lyon.

Stewart is on the cusp of racking up another amazing record. He currently sits on 97 tries and is likely to become the quickest player to have scored up 100 tries.

Shane Rodney will also miss this weekends match with a broken hand. Coming into the starting line-up is Chris Bailey with Tony Williams added to the 5 man bench.

jeez hodkinson looked pretty good last week, even though it was an easy win. He is worth keeping an eye on

Didnt see it but he needs to get a run in NRL soon, with Ox there not sure how it will happen without an injury though

Lucky we are not playing the Bulldogs with Mohamad on the touchline.  Coudl be good surely he harbours some resentment to the Shire after the riots of a few years back

Don't get me wrong, we should still rack up a score, but there is a little bit to be wary off in that Sharks side

Snowdon and Douglas will go forward all day, Gallen and Tupou are pretty effective if given room, and Ferguson and Stapleton are capable of finding holes

Exactly and that's why I keep bringing up his name.  Everybody seems to forget about the QLD Cup side as being our reserve grade and look straight to the Toyota Cup for replacement suggestions.  I know it's hard to suggest names from the SCSE when people from down south don't get to see them play or even that the MWSE website never even used to report on the team but have been more recently.  I know myself that the only time that I get to see them play is when they are on live on ABC1 in QLD but I chase up and read every newspaper report that I can find and post them here as well as give the results of the game with who scored etc so that everybody on here can also get a feel of how the team is going.  It is also a pity that the SCSE couldn't sacrifice a home game up on the Sunshine Coast and play a game at Brookie in front of the Manly crowd before one of the Manly home games.

It looks like Eeyore has been named as a bench player in both the NRL & QLD Cup sides this weekend.

lol with the pace he turns around with, there is no way he would make it from one game to the plane and to the other :)
