Those 90's teams with Ridge were great to watch defend, remember Ridge blowing up in goal if a try was scored!

With a nickname like 'turban head' ....of course he would blow up.

Gee 96 is well down that list but ended up way on top in the end. I hope we don't have a heavy rep load during the Origin period.

We might lose Snake for a few games which will suck as he saves so many tries.

Yes indeed, and the captain was our current coach.

Saw this article 'Manly tackling their way to NRL success on nrl.com' today and I remebered thinking to myself watching our defensive effort against the dogs of how much it reminded me of our great team in the mid 90's. Always knew back then when we managed to get more than a converted try ahead on the scoreboard that it would take alot for the opponent to get over us - that feeling is back this year. 2V seems to be drawing on the influences of bozo's defensive coaching - it's great to watch.

The '87 team must have conceded a truck load of penalties! Only 6 tries but 55 points.

The 96 team was the best defensively in my memory. They were simply outstanding. I remember stretches in games where opposition would have repeat sets against us and I wasn't even the slightest bit concerned they were going to score. They averaged about 8.5 point against which is really unbelievable when you think about it.

Having the best defensive record in the comp is impressive. But just 36 after five rounds! - and the next best is the Storm on 64 - and they've played only four matches!

Defence starts with heart.
Great start, great heart!

Ridge didn't play the first few rounds because of super league crap in 1996. That's prob the reason we conceded so many points the first few weeks. From memory his first game back was the gf replay against the dogs in which I think we kept them scoreless!! Awesome team.

Wonder how we are doing on this stat after round six and an extra 18 points?

Even though we had 18 against us, i am reasonably comfortable that our defence is still best in the comp. Two wingers made individual errors, Williams would not have erred as Hiku did, and Jorge just needs to eliminate those from his game. The other was of course against the run, length of field; we might have scored with a bit more luck.
