I think Foran will play. I know he hurt himself during the game but he lead a kick chase down the ground late in the game and was able to play through it. I think he's of the same mindset as his coach is and would have to be close to losing a limb before he would rule himself out of a game. As for the moonboot, that's as much precaution these days and doesn't by any means mean a serious injury.

Shame Farrar is out, would have slotted in easily. So with Whare injured does that mean Tafua will get his first gig ? I personally hope they give him a shot, its early on in the season, we have nothing to lose ! Foran being 50/50 sounds like a good prospect !

Baclkline: stewart oldfield Tafua Lyon Williams Foran DCE

I hear the reserve grade coach used to be able to play a bit, maybe throw him in the 6.

Also is the Telegraph correct? Manly Daily today said G Stewart was trying to come back this week.

The Manly Daily article looks like it was written yesterday. Perhaps things have changed as the latest media seems to have him missing time.

With farrar out for the season does anyone know how that affects the salarycap? Does the cap open up when a player is finished for the season?

So with whare fine our team could look something like this !

01 Stewart
02 Oldfield
03 Whare
04 Lyon
05 Williams
06 Foran (If Forans out blood Riccardi)
07 DCE
08 King
09 Ballin
10 Kite
11 Watmough
12 Buhrer
13 Williams

14 Harrison
15 Lussick
16 Mauro
17 Robinson or Rose.

Whare is not fine according to the Manly Daily

"If Matai was forced out, it would cause some selection headaches in midfield for coach Geoff Toovey after Dean Whare injured his knee on Saturday".

As the Daily doesn't mention Farrar as a possible replacment, then perhaps they got the names mixed up and Whare is right to go?

I suppose we will just have to wait till this afternoon when the team is announced, is the team announced today ?

Oldfield played Centre in his Junior days and also last year in a game or so. Farrar is out.

We are going to miss the utility valued offered by little Hoppa!!!

Manly's Matai out of NRL for up to 6 weeks

Manly centre Steve Matai has been ruled out for up to six weeks after breaking his thumb in the Sea Eagles' 26-20 NRL win over the Warriors on Sunday.

Eagles' coach Geoff Toovey confirmed the news on Tuesday and admits the Kiwi Test star will be a big loss to his side ahead of Friday's big clash with Wests Tigers in Gosford.

Glenn Stewart is also battling to be fit after dislocating his finger in the clash at Eden Park but Toovey is hopeful the NSW backrower will be able to line up against the Tigers.

"Stevie looks like he's going to be out between four to six weeks which is disappointing as he's a big player for us," Toovey said.

"We have a few other bumps and bruises and are now waiting on the results of a scan on Glenn.

"We're hoping he'll be right, but we can't decide until he's spoken to the specialist and hopefully we'll find out tonight (Tuesday)."

Five-eighth Kieran Foran was sporting ice packs on his knee and ankle at the Sea Eagles' training ground on Sydney's northern beaches, but Toovey was more optimistic about him recovering in time for Friday.

"He's should be fine. It's just a bump and a bruise and he'll be off his feet for a few days and we'll rest him up until the game," he said.

The biggest threat to our B2B is injuries and we are off to a **** start.

Hopefully we dust the Tigers on Friday and escape with no more.

We played and won some pretty big games without Glen Stewart last year. Same as Matai. If Foran is 50-50 to play i reckon he'll play. I hope they write us off as usual. We always win those games. See rd2 lastyear as someone else brought up.

Makes it all the more impressive that win over the Warriors. No Joe and no George, Gift played half a game hampered by finger injury, Matai half a game, Foran on one leg 2nd half, Ballin in sinbin last 10 minutes yet we still managed a match winning try in that last 10 minutes. Very impressive stuff.

We must remember that injuries (and suspensions) hamper every club, not just us. We have a few injuries which is not great but we are not alone in that department.

Try not to stress about things that cannot be controlled in the NRL.

I would rather ride out the injuries now rather than the back end of the season.

All we can do is the best we can with the players fit & available.
