Let's say we decided at the end of 2015 that we decided to focus on developing our youth in 2016 instead of the pipe dream that was sold to the members and fans that the rebuild was done in record time and we were contenders. Have a buying spree for 2017 and a real crack in 2018-19.

Keep Gutho and Hiku, Chee Kam. Bring through players from.last years 20's like Demetriou and give game time to players like knight and Parker and Hyndes.
Not sign players like plod and Poo brown.

Would we be in a better place now than we are? Tigers put faith in youth and have developed some talent and with a few good signings could be a top 8 team.
Are Newcastle going to overtake us?

I agree with all that except the Newcastle bit at the end.

Apart from Myles & Brown pretty happy with most other recruits , including Walker once he got back to the centres....apart from Hargreaves not many have left the nest & gone on to improve...though Knight could well be another.
On your point of working with more juniors...100% agree, trouble has been, compared to Penrith & a few other teams out there, Manly have not had a great number of players coming through with obvious NRL talent....maybe this Blacktown connection will help get a stronger junior base than we have today?

It may not be too late if we buy young talent and not has-beens.

We would have finished the same this year, if not better. The issue we have is we are going to be poo in the future as well. In 2 years time old blokes like Myles, Brown, Snake, Matai, Lawrence, Blake Green, Uate, Matulino, Greg Bird are not likely to be playing, playing well, or playing with us.

There is no long term forward planning, like Toovs had in place. If we have a massive turn over every year, we start on the back foot. Two years now and with this regime nothing's changed. The clean out after another terrible year continues, off load young up and comers and recruit old has been continues.

It's interesting to look at what has happened in the AFL. The GWS Giants have been in the comp for 5 years now and look like winning it this year. When they started out, they recruited the best 17 and 18 year olds going around. Sure they had help from the AFL but in their first year they won 2 games, second year 1, third year 6, fourth year 11 and now they could be the dominant team for the next few years.

Could the Newcastle Knights be like the Giants in a few years time? Brown has been thinking long term, looking to the future and willing to take the losses now in hope that things will improve as the players mature and get experience. Interesting to see if this works.

Manly on the other hand don't appear to have any future plan by their recruiting of older players and win at all costs attitude. This does not bode well for Manly's future.

They have pumped just as much into the Suns..

Look at the Panthers and their dominance of the u20s. They are still recruiting big money players...

It just seems very rare to get the right group of talented players who come through and succeed.
