haha - yeah I was searching for another thread and came across this one. The commentators I mentioned were from memory the wok, morrow and craig hamilton on abc. One of them said "there's not much evidence there of his famed speed" until one of them, maybe hamilton corrected the misconception.

I was chatting to a league historian on Friday who wondered if anyone could help with this one?

Can't be much of a league historian. How does one qualify to be a league historian? Put up a facebook page??

I still can't recall who the 'Hayne' was that was listed on our bench.

Yeah mate, I found the same as Bradza...(looked at the FC annual reports- see www.manlyfootballclub.com.au and found him on the first grade listing)

Then a net search and found this http://geocities.ws/rl_triva/craig_hayne_profile.html

Don't know mate... but the guess his background below gave me a bit of confidence that he knew a bit about the game....

He is a sports historian, author and journalist, specialising in early Australian history and in particular the origins and local development of the popular football codes in Australia. He has written articles for Australian national daily newspapers, numerous sports magazines and official Australian Rugby League match day programs. He maintains the rugby league history website and has written two books - The Rugby Rebellion (2005, Hachette Livre) and The Master - The Life and Times of Dally Messenger (2007, London League Publications), co-written with Dally Messenger III.

He was one of the college of 130 experts commissioned by the Australian Rugby League and National Rugby League in 2007 to select Australian rugby league's 100 greatest players for the code's Australian centenary celebrations in 2008.

He was a member of the Australian Rugby League's Centenary Historian Committee selected to advise on aspects of the centenary. He was also appointed Consultant Historian on the National Rugby League's 2008 documentary series A Century of Rugby League and was a contributor to League of Legends, a travelling museum exhibition developed and presented by the National Museum of Australia in 2008.

Decent start towards being a historian I guess? - I'm not sure if he has a facebook page though?

2003, Manly played 24 games. Won 7 - lost 17 and finished 2nd last in a field of 15. Scott Donald was our top try scorer with 21 and Ben Walker was our top point scorer with 138. Average home crowd was 10 367.
Craig Hayne played one game and we won that giving him a 100% win rate with Manly. I remember it well. lol
