Like Bones said we have had ref errors go our way aswell, it all evens out. Blaming Refs is weak imo. Sometimes you just have to admit to yourself that it might just be the Teams fault.

the bunker call had nothing to do with "discipline".

How can you blame our team for stuff that the refs ignore for others?

Last night we could have just as legitimately had a big leg up penalty count to start the game. The only genuine bit of ill-discipline was Lussick's high shot. Everything else was subjective and uneven.

The refs have a tip sheet so go in with a bias to start with.

I agree with alot of what you said but things like dropped balls, giving away stupid penalties (please don't blame the refs) and general discipline have been atrocious this season. These things have little to do with Injuries or turnarounds. I can see a solid future with our current roster and im sure we will eventually get there but after the way Toovey was sacked due to this being a "Results Driven Business" and our new recruits i expected more from the team this year. Especially when other teams that have similar issues to us are looking so much better.
I blame the refs

As someone said in another thread, even Wayne Bennett would have struggled to get this team to have been any better with the draw and injuries we had.

Just look at his record with St Merge and Newcastle. Yes he won a premiership with St Merge in 2010, but the reality is that the two best teams of the previous 3 years (us and Melbourne) were down and out in 2010. We had injuries to key players (Snake and Wolfman come to mind) plus we had lost Ox. And Melbourne got done for rorting the cap. When both were back in form the next season Wayne's Dragoons were back to being nowhere. Then at Newcastle, after an initial promising season they went backwards and he left them worse than when he got there. Now he's back in Brisbane with their favourable Nein driven draw and all the advantages of being the only team in town and shock horror he looks like a supercoach again.

We all know Tooves got shafted last year by the Penn's. But I honestly don't think Baz is doing too bad considering. After a shaky start we finally started to get the lineup right when injuries began to hit. DCE was out, we lost T-Red, Jake and Skivy to niggling injuries (though they recovered quickly enough) and now we're missing our starting back 3 in Snake, Tommy and Jorge. In 9 rounds we've probably had 1 game (Sharks) where we've had anywhere near close to our best 17 on the park. We've pretty much had a different team on the field in every game we've played. To be 4-5 right now with the draw and injuries we've had, while not the best, is a damn sight better than the predicted 0-9, 1-8 or 2-7 some had us at.

Yes our attack needs a lot of work and our defence could be a lot better, but when injuries force constant changes to the line up week in, week out its hard to get any consistency and hard to get combinations working.

Oh, and for the record I still think the bunker got it right in our so-called lucky win over the Chooks, even if their reasoning was wrong. For mine Tupou was offside so either way it was the correct call.

all the hype that went with the incoming players and coach set the high expectation.

obviously need patience with a totally new team but from what I have seen it's just so average. Impressed with Parcell and Kapow (who others have suggested would benefit from running off someone on the edge of the ruck) but we are one out at the moment and desperately need a specialist five-eighth.

It's going to be a lean few years.

As much as I think that Walker is making progress as a running 5/8, part of his problem, and its a big factor in why Kapow doesn't seem to be going as well as some would like, is that he doesn't pass to his outside players all that much. Marty, Skivy and Jorge on the whole have been starved of the ball other than when they've taken it upon themselves to go looking for the ball. Walker should be using his outside support players more.

But wasn't it Zorba who was telling us that last year was unacceptable and bringing in Bozo and getting rid of players was to enable us to go straight back to the top without an extensive rebuild. By the way I agree with what you say

This is exactly right: some folks are expecting too much because they've been led to expect instant results. Sure we "won" the pre-season, with more positive press than we've had for many years, but all that did was set us up for a big fall. We haven't looked like the contenders we were supposed to look like; instead we've looked less than ordinary. We might improve as the year goes on. Then again, we might not. We'll all just have to wait and see.

Bugger rebuilding and experimenting, I want to win some games. There are glaring selection and tactical errors every week.

Yes it's Jamie's last year and he is a legend, but we need him at 6 and more involved, and we need Walker out wide. It's best for the team not the individuals involved.

It's not really negativity, well in my case. I believe we can finish as high as 4.

But our next two matches are against Broncos and Sharks.

It's no easier the next week with a cold Friday night game in Canberra.

If we don't win 2 of those 3 we are in trouble.

We're in trouble, you read it here first (lol).

Can't see us beating top 4 sides, and very marginal to be thinking about beating top 8 sides with the constantly changing line up.

BUT, I think we will improve , especially if we can get a run of injury free games.

Look at the Cowboys, virtually running out the same team as the GF last year , and hardly an injury to speak of in 2016 to date.

Bloody hard to put together a contender when every week is a different structure!!

Mate, we dominated for a decade. There has to be a re build period. Have a little patience.

Fair enough, but bear with me I was born in 69. For all but a few years of my life we have been ultra competitive and the finals were a given. We often make the grand final too.

I will remain angry while the team fails to improve.

I was born in 68 and witnessed the Nothern eagle . Also saw Dessie and Delmerge reserect the Manly club. Be patient we are on the verge of another decade of dominance.

Put everything else aside and Manly is an undisciplined team with not many defensive quality's. We lose games because we give away more penalties than any other team bar one.

And we don't learn. We will go out the next week and try the same dumb **** and get penalised for it, which puts our suspect defence under pressure.

If you are going to give away penalties, you've got to be able to tackle.

I prefer last season to be honest. We had a lot of injuries and a much weaker roster but one of the Manly greats was still our coach and it still felt like Manly; backs against the wall and the ability to come out and beat any team on our night. We beat Melbourne in Melbourne for christ sake. We still scored some nice tries and looked organised. It was just a case of not being able to match the oppositions go forward due to a lack of cattle. We should have passed on Nate Myles, signed Taupau and kept Toovey, Hiku, and Gutherson. With Foran gone and the contract sagas over, we could have moved peacefully forward.

This season it just doesn't feel like Manly...more like St George. A disorganised rabble that give away a lot of dumb penalties and are making it all up on the spot. I can't stand watching a football team attack off the top of their heads; it's painful to watch.

I am concerned about the future because I think DCE is ancient history. I just can't see how he is ever going to be the player he used to be but he will still take up so much money under the cap.

This could be our team;

Stewart
Taufua/Gutherson
Hiku
Matai
Trbojevic
Lyon
DCE

Starling
Koroisau
Lawrence
Buhrer
Taupau
Trbojevic

Mateo
Vave
AFB
Parcell

Coach; The Great Geoff Toovey!

the souths game at Brooky last season was brilliant. Regarding above post alot has changed and can understand what you are saying but what do you do. We've been through these lulls before but what is annoying is that the owners felt they had to gut the place which really wasn't necessary. A bit of perspective and less agenda's would've been good. all history now and we aren't crap just a bit dull...

I agree but don't think he is much of a passer. Lyon or api has a better passing game. Walker has to go back to centre.
