    Eagles ‘arrogant’

    04 Sep 08 @ 07:23pm by JASON AVEDISSIAN

TITANS coach John Cartwright has labelled Manly “arrogant” as the war of words between the two clubs escalated last night with Nathan Friend claiming the Sea Eagles have “no options” in attack.

Cartwright was responding to comments by Manly players in yesterday’s Manly Daily over claims made by Friend that the Sea Eagles were “skylarking” in their 28-10 victory at Brookvale Oval.

Second-rower Glenn Hall called Friend a “sook” while Perry told the Queenslander to focus on “Mad Monday”.

Cartwright yesterday took aim at both Manly forwards, and didn’t miss.

“Our guys felt Manly became arrogant out there after they scored a few tries,” the ex-Australian forward said.

“That’s typical of Manly. They’ve treated other clubs that way for 60 years. It’s good to see the new players that go there don’t change.”

Manly CEO Grant Mayer said the Sea Eagles are not cocky and told the Titans to move on.

“People have got to realise rugby league is a sport and they are getting way too serious about all this,” he said. “We are not arrogant, we are self-confident.”

Friend yesterday had a chuckle when told of Cartwright’s “arrogant” comments.

“I’m glad I’m not the only one,” he said.

When asked if Manly have the goods to win the competition, he said: “Defensively, they are a quality outfit across the park, but, Manly seem to have no options (in attack).

“They scored two of their tries against us from kicks where the bounce of the ball went their way. They need to work on a few areas come finals time.”

At least they will be there, unlike the Titans who host the Wests Tigers on the Gold Coast in a meaningless match on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Sea Eagles chase the minor premiership in their encounter with Penrith at CUA Stadium tomorrow evening.

If the Titans are going to have a cry everytime someone scores a try from a lucky bounce off a kick they must order in extra Kleenex when they play the Shirks or the Rorters.

He might be right about our limited option attack, but it was good enough for us to put 28 on them pretty easily and only the gimp with the whistle saved it from being a bigger embarrassment.

We are only the leading points scorers for the year...but we have nothing in attack.  Sounds like Friend rates himself after Ray Warren wanted to blow him for chasing Williams on that run away try earlier this year.

There was some joviality in the last twenty as we tried to get Beaver over the line - but at the end of a long hard campaign, just prior to the semis (where it gets very serious) that is fine and to be expected.

    Silly muppets!!!!

IF being arrogant means a team can finish 1st or 2nd then so be it.  Are Melbourne arrogant?  Probably, and look where they've been the last 3 years.  If the Titans want to make this a reality show all about feelings and honesty then they may as well stay on the couch and cry themselves to sleep.

But Mayer is 100% correct - Manly know they will win and they did.  Black and white really, if you dont go into a game with that mentality then you're gone.

Maybe on Monday Friend will get rid of his ugly little mullet, but he's not smart enough, despite what Prince says.  Oh what's that, Friend got sinbinned earlier in the year for the same kind of thing?  No, couldn't be.  Too bad he's suspended and won't be playing the same team when he got binned.

IF most of our 600-odd points were lucky gifts, i'd hate to see what happens when we really fire up in the finals.  Too bad Titans will be on their holidays and not watching.

    Next year, eh fellas?

    Wow. What a moron!

It's highly entertaining though. I love other people/clubs being jealous of Manly  ;)

I think Perry hit him too hard he's got head injuries.

I think last year the team lacked a bit of self belief, so I see this as a positive.

Wasn't Friend supposed to be a 'smart hooker' according to Prince? He also got dusted in the quiz on the Footy Show against Shillington IIRC.

2 years and nothing....heading the way of the cowboys, plenty of players head there but they seem to never achieve.

3 good seasons from the cowboys and that's it.

Titans, so far have only one record......Leading after 10 rounds and not making the finals......

Is their supporter group called the creche?

That's the best article I've read all year.

The best thing ever printed in the Daily.

The Cowboys were only ever any good when they were owned by News Ltd. See what happened when the funding was removed? They are back way down at the bottom of the table fighting it out for the "Wooden Spoon" title just like they used to be. When News Ltd stop funding the Storm then that is exactly where they will be as well fighting it out with the Cowboys & Dogs for the same "Wooden Spoon" title. I can't wait for the day when it happens either.
