The guys from the Today show we're giving it to Cherry about being a sookie lala - consensus, you signed a contract suck it up princess. I think there is a growing group (those with some understanding of contracts) that believe he should honor his word.....counts for little when player managers and this current generation is involved. Just hope there are no late night trips to Toulon

I am a dinosaur when it comes to these matters. Yes give a bloke a pay rise if it's warranted (as it is), but as for this release business 18 months before your contract finishes...bullshiit !...

If DCE is not getting paid what he is worth he should put the blame on his manager, not Manly. His manager signed him to the current three year deal. No one forced them to sign it. Manly gave an offer and they accepted it. If his next contract is worth $500k and he doesn't play very well, will his manager then say to the club, take some of the money back and just pay him what he is worth? Of course not.

Exactly right. Player managers are causing so much friction. If players got rid of their managers they would be 10% better off financially.
Does this Orr fool advocate we all break our contracts with banks, insurance companies, phone companies, etc?
Bloody ludicrous.
We all know DCE is worth more. But what if he had suffered a career ending injury just after signing the contract? How would people view the club if they said: "sorry, you are now not worth what we are paying you. Good bye!"
I sincerely hope DCE is not letting this Orr fool speak for him. He's smarter than Orr, the leach, will ever be.

DCE signed a 3 year deal when no other club wanted him, what if he turned out to be a dud, Manly would still have to pay him. Contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. And it happens at all clubs. Why even sign a contract?

This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem for the NRL and must be addressed by the independant commision. Unless there is mutual agreement between the two parties (club/player) contracts registered by the NRL should be honoured.

Have a look at how many players/clubs have reneged on contracts, it's getting out of hand and I'm over it. If players/managers want to hold our club to ransom knowing we have salary cap pressure tell them to piss off.
In DCE's case if he chucks a tantrum and doesn't perform because of it drop him and make him sit out the rest of his contract.

Off course he should get an upgrade but his big payday will come when the cap allows it.

Last year Matai's manager wanted a release so that Cronulla could buy him - Manly said no.
Matai is also earning less here than in the Shire. Seems to be happy enough

Daly has a good head on his shoulders, so the negotiations are just what a sensible person would do. Great fuelling of the DT 'Manly is a basket case' storyline. We are going too well on the field and 2V needs us back under that radar :D

I agree that both Chez and Wolfy did Manly proud on the NRL on Fox show. Their personality and professionalism makes me proud - earnt their Wings and then some

PS. After 21st December we may not need to worry about anything anyway :p

Precisely right Bones.

We all need to calm down, and the club needs to get a serious move on with bedding a respectable contract for him beyond next year.

If we need to dump someone well that is unfortuate but is the nature of the sport - but we must move on this - no dilly dallying, this is a crucial retention signing for us. PLEASE MANLY GET GOING.

Any one else reckon Orr sees 7.5% of $600k being better than 7.5% of $80k.

Player managers are the ones ruining and club loyalty that exists. They are vultures.

From triple m

It's been revealed Manly Sea-Eagles superstar player Daly Cherry-Evans has requested a release from his contract over his salary, a reported $85,000 - significantly lower than his peers, or his market value.

As MG says, "he's the hottest prospect and commodity in NRL at the minute" and he could secure a significantly higher salary elsewhere, though to lose their star halfback would be a tragedy for Manly Sea-Eagles fans.

"Just before kick off the other night, you were offered a four deal by Manly. You said no, what were you thinking?" Johns asked Cherry-Evans on FOX recently.

"We're obviously trying to get something sorted as soon as possible, at the moment it's not what we're looking for," the young player responded.

"What was so unacceptable about the Manly offer?" Triple M's Mark "MG" Geyer asked Daly Cherry-Evans' manager Gavin Orr this morning.

"It really came down to the first two years of a new contract. Twelve and thirteen weren't going to be lifted by that much. As you know, his market value has gone through the roof. Two years ago, there wasn't a club interested in signing Daly. I know that sounds hard to believe but that was the case," Orr explained.

After a year that saw his team win the premiership and his fortunes change significantly, it's understandable Cherry-Evans is considering his options.

However, according to NRL journalist Paul Kent, "Manly's financial position is perilous."

"The way the salary cap works - a lot of Manly contracts are back-ended, and we're coming to the pointy end of the stick... At the moment, Manly are trying to do their best to sort that out," Orr said. "They can't offer Daly [on the cap] any more money for this year or next year," he added.

Matty Johns suggests the South Sydney Rabbitohs will be the team to poach Daly Cherry-Evans.
