I might be tanked but....

winning a comp is f*****n hard. lots can go wrong. injuries to one or more of brett s, or foran, lyon and watmough/gift (one but not both) probably the key for us.

but bow down wally lewis style to des and the coaching staff. we haven't bought a major star since orford and bell. We've been poached off by other clubs much more than the other way round (but thanks parra for trying, and I'll take t-rex happily). But to see the quality of the play this year from this ideal mix of youth and experience. It warms my f*****n heart. Just imagine if that whole b stewart nightmare hadn't have happened.

It's generally true that a coach is made great by having good players, but the last few years at the eagles it's been about the ability to spot and develop quality players and dessie and his crew have done a ****hot job at that.

Des hasler has to be in the running for coach of the year.not many of the so called experts predicted we would be in 2nd position on the nrl ladder at this stage of the season and if all goes well the minor premiership is very realistic

very true, heard Penna saying the huge amount of 20's in nrl squad that have come thru!! hoppa, DCE, Foran, Oldfield, Buhrer, Lussick, don't forget Mauro, that's 7, well done Crusher and scouts, don't 4get to thank Darren for his insight in pushing junior development being a key factor in 2011 form :p

Why would we thank Darren, what did he have to do with the development of the juniors ?:p

Des has been one of our best ever coaches for sure. Hopefully he is happy to stick around a lot longer yet and build a Des dynasty.

I also agree with IMT, Brett Stewart makes such a difference to the team, the guy is a freak, an absolutely unique talent, so it puts in perspective the diminished performance without him over the last 2 seasons. If we never lost him we probably would have continued on in the same vein as the '08 GF and the WCC. Back on track now though, it's great to watch.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here guys. We are going very well. I thought last night complacency might get the better of us, but it seems we have our heads screwed on right.

People are now saying we'll win the comp, and Des is an emperor?

We have games against some pretty tough opposition coming up, and I consider the Eels one of those teams due for a run.

Hopefully they continue to knuckle down.

Boys done good.

This is the team I always wanted but never thought I'd see at Manly. I hate the whole buying of 1st graders thing. I love seeing local juniors come through. I love seeing us take on other clubs discards & turning them into stars.

This team stands for everything that is good. We have more local juniors in our lineup than any other Sydney team & that with the 3rd or 4th smallest junior area.

We fukkin rule & Duff fukkin rules too, just quietly.

We can get ahead of ourselves all we like here! :D

It is the boys that can't get ahead on themselves.....and have no doubt about it Mr Des will not be letting that occur....at all.

Also, if you know Des you should know that he does not let complacency root in his camp. I think you will get an insight to this by Des and all of the team continually stating they have alot of improvement left in them......this shows that there is no environment in their camp for complacency.

We are going better than "very well"; if you look continually at the small things in this years side you will see continual signs that we are heading for WHITE HOT. Little things like the body language at all stages of the game; the intensity in the last quarter of the games, the player talk/support to each other, the 3-4 players in every tackle, the driving back we do in defense. There are signs of a robust and dynamic foundation in this year's team - i think we have every right to get well ahead of ourselves; these are the signs that the long term Manly fans remember seeing in these premierships years of 87, 96 and 08. These are the signs that many of us await for .......and rejoyce!! the signs have arrived!

Yes goin well and time to 're-joyce' a little at the half way mark of the comp....but a long way to go yet and this team will get better still... Ryan is right about not getting ahead of ourselves.

Will be important to see how Manly goes vs Dragons soon, against Melbourne and a full strength Brisbane in last 2 games of the season. Dragons game will be the yardstick for now.

Well done boys!

Des and the boys have done a great job to get where they are, but the real work starts now. We are coming up against some real tough competition and we can no longer say we are flying "under the radar". The whole comp is awake to how good we are now. But I believe this side is good enough to keep going and take an important top 4 spot.

Not sure who you consider as really tough. Saints yes will be tough, but in my opinion, between us and saints there is daylight behind us. Our attitude is far superior to any other team, bar saints. This shows in our defense

If you can't really enjoy right now, exactly when is the right time to savour?

About once a decade after a GF win?

And remember when we did win the grandfinal? Even then, the depressives here were telling us in the middle of the celebrations, to not get ahead of ourselves and become complacent. I'm yet to see evidence of us fans having a depressive and cautious attitude helping the team one iota.

Exactly. So if we do win this year because we have a superb ability, depth, confidence and discipline, what will all ye say then? "Lucky we were reversed and cautious as fans half way through the season, otherwise our team may have got cocky and complacent and not won the GF"

Come-on! Remember we are the fans not the players.....Dessie's job is not to get the players too excited about playing white hot. I think the cautioners are confused a tad......and scared. If we don't win they can come out of the woodwork and say "I told you not to get too excited!"

Let's get excited Sea Eagles! I believe Rex is right, the players will benefit form our non-doubtful belief!

bow down to emperor des - he has done a remarkable job

The reason I don't get 'over excited' or 'over confident' at this time of year is I like to laugh at the fans of clubs like St George, Souths and the Roosters who buy their grand final tickets in may.

I don't want to be as cocky as them, nor do I want to look the fool if we fail to reach the heights that some think we will.

That said you have to be able to enjoy where we are, and the way we are playing, which is certainly with a lot of passion and commitment. And adding to that far be it from me to be a wet blanket, if you want to run around declaring this the greatest team to every walk the earth, then go ahead.

Other teams fans must be hating how practically every other commentator are having orgasms over how our team are performing. Even Warren Ryan doesn't need any viagra to get turned on with the Sea Eagles at the moment.
I heard one commentator say on the Sunday Roast yesterday that Manly are the 'celebrity' team right now.
What, are Manly the Lady Gaga of RL ;^) and we the fans are its 'Little Monsters'. (I hope some of you old blokes on this forum haven't been lost with the Gaga comment)

No one is getting ahead of themselves. It is what it is.8 from the last 9.Great attack and better defence, great depth and the most creative halves in the comp.

Unlike the last few years this is clearly a comp where three or four sides are standaouts and the rest can book their end of season trips. The gap is huge.If St Choke,us or Brisbane dont win this comp I will run nude down the Corso. At 120kg that is not a sight to behold.

This bandwagon is filling up boy-dont board now at your peril.

Lady who? Lol - assuming that's you in the photo 'Skin, you don't look so young and fresh-faced yourself. Or are you one of these prematurely balding 20 somethings?

Yep, that's me at 46 years old. I'm young in spirit: running, writing, doing art, coaching baseball... and a bit of real work on the side to keep my family's head above water ;)
