What else was good were his two kick off stops.  He would've seen the Storm fck it up and would've felt a heap of pressure to keep the ball in play.  Trapping a speeding grubber kick twice...awesome.

Snake would've nailed him.

Gronk wants to root Farrar.

Love your work Matthew.

The Farrar tackle was magnificent and probably season saving.

I wonder however if Slater has lost a bit of zip? Maybe not but he doesn't seem to quite scorch over the first 40 like he used to.

4 some.  Don't forget Kingy.

Where are all the posters who said Farrar was always just going to be a second-stringer, not up to the top grade, couldn't position himself properly, defensively suspect? IMO one of the great buys and has slotted in solidly without any disruption to the team from the day he arrived. Glad to see he gets some applauds finally.

I wonder what he's going to do next year? He'd be relying on an injury to get into the side, which is a shame really because he's a very good player. Great for depth though and we'll never see Neumann again hopefully.

The thing is there will always be injury or suspensioncto the backline, its inevitable, so he will get a good go considering he can cover all backline spots baring the halfback.

What usually happans in the case that a 5/8 gets injured, lyon moves  out from centre to 5/8 which then farrer slots in.

from the get go farrar put me at ease; he looks a sensible, reliable footballer with potential to improve. it will be good to have him in or around the 17 going into the finals. matai looks one tackle away from being carted off always, and lyon will need some cover, and maybe stewart too if he breaks down or can't get up to speed right away.

for mine foran needs to be there for the defensive structure in the backs which seems to have stabilised better now. bailey has found his place finally in the back row rotation. 2 games to go, hopefully to fine tune with stewy back.

Farrar on the bench? he can cover any pos in the backline and i think he will do well at dummy half.

It was Farrar's tackle.

Also there was a Manly player on Slater's right, getting in the way of a pass to his outside man - which I think is what turned Slater inside. Any idea who that was?

Pretty sure it was Robbo who got in the way of the winger outside him. I personally thought it was great to have Robbo back on the wing and it made us a much stronger side as a result. He cut off a few very dangerous moments by coming in and taking the man. He is a very important part in our side, and with Snake back, it makes us much more of a threat.

Yeah Robbo looked at home on the wing. It took me a while to get used to him being there though :)

But he definitely made us look more solid in attack and defence, even though they scored down his side.

Farrars positioning helped a hell of a lot too!

Another look at that tackle;

Wouldn't want to be you:
For all the brilliance he still possesses, 2009 hasn't quite been up to par for Billy Slater. His form this season simply hasn't been a scratch on 2008. Case in point being that it is unlikely Billy Slater of a year ago would have blown the chance to set up a late-winner in the grand final re-match at Olympic Park.

Slater could have pulled the game out of the fire for Melbourne when he found himself in open space with a minute remaining, and two support men on his right, including an unmarked Steve Turner. But Slater instead headed infield, failing to hear the calls on his outside, and was dragged down 10 metres out as he attempted a wild pass infield that found nothing but a swarm of Manly defenders. The fine line between hero and villain has rarely been thinner and Slater faces a week of what ifs as he replays that one over and over again in his mind.

I think most if not all would agree that the recruitment teams' swap to gain Farrar was an astute move.

Yes, most definitely and I think that Bani also found a bit of form with his move to the Cowboys as well.

Snake and Nicci would love my work too if they gave me a guernsey.

The man that got in the way may have been Matai I think. If i get a chance will look at the video later on to make sure

I listened to Bellamy on the ABC interveiwed post match and he talked about Matai positioning himself to cut off the outside ball
