Last time I looked recreational drugs were on the banned substances list. Who's to say the uppers and downers he took didn't help him cope with his mental condition, then by definition they enhanced his performance.

So Yow-Yeh should be banned for 2 years for taking a procedure that will improve his performance after what happened to him?

I'd let him take ghb if it was to help depression, but good way to make depression seem like a cold

The procedure that Yow Yeh underwent isn't on a banned substance/procedure list. The drugs that Johns took were/are. Two completely different situations.

As for the other issue at hand regarding John's depression, I am trying to tread carefully given how touchy as subject it is. I am by no means trying to belittle the problem, nor how he dealt with it. Let's leave it at that.

Agree 100% Cocaine is on the banned list because it is both illegal and performance enhancing. To pop an eccie before a game is only going to make you want to make more tackles, most likely third man in flops, but you will be penalised for holding on waaaay too long. Weed will just make you laugh hysterically as a big prop forward seems to fly past you at the speed of light while you try to catch him in your thongs.

Matty Johns has described his brother Andrew Johns' new role as a Manly Ambassador as an "odd."

"It is odd, now that I think of it. It'll be like Pele being a roving ambassador for Germany," Matty said over much laughter from MG and Gus on the Grill Team.

As well as becoming an Ambassador, rugby leagues newest Immortal will also be an assistant coach at the Sea Eagles for 2013.

It would seem, however, Matty wasn't in the mood for dishing out brotherly love on the show today referring to Joey's biggest 'claims' of 2012 season.

"Shaun Johnson, he said he's an absolute phenomenon, there's nothing he can't do, he could be the best player in the world. He finished the year in reserve grade," Matty stated as MG dissolved into fits of laughter.

Matty also had some advice for the Newcastle Knights and what they should do with the 'Andrew Johns Stand' at their ground.

"They shouldn't change the name of the grandstand completely, just the first name..."

Insert much laughter all round.

Regardless of what ppl think about Johns, theres no debate about his ability when it comes to rugby league.
His tuition, guidance, knowledge & proven ability will have every talented junior wanting to become a Seaeagle to learn from the modern day master. Thats a good thing right??
Also over Johns copping critisism over having a life outside footy, plenty here including myself are probably guilty of things deemed to be shocking.
Fact is thats history, he apologised & now he is part of the Manly club - so get used to it.

If he is taking substances that are on the banned list then by definition he is breaking the laws of the game = cheating. I didn't say he was using performance enhancing drugs in my initial statement. I just said he was a drug cheat. Drug user/drug cheat is just getting caught up in semantics. I agree that the use of the word "cheat" carries with it an inference that he was trying to gain advantage from it, so maybe some hyperbole on my part. I'm happy with whatever definition you feel comfortable with. The fact still remains that he used substances that were banned (for whatever reason).

My second statement was a little tongue in cheek, regarding the performance enhancing properties of ecstacy, alchohol, cocaine, dope, sudafed, Red Bull and Stillnox, or whatever your recreational poison is. I don't want to get into long winded arguments about it, suffice to say you don't know the effect that it has on different peoples mental state and how that effects their performance. However in general I will agree that you would not generally consider most recreational drugs as performance enhancing in the true sense of the word.

Did he do much? His photo was on my Membership card, which was promptly lost. He heaped some negativity towards the club on the Footy Show a few times, or maybe that was the year before. Maybe he was paid purely to stop dissing the club on national television, which is not a bad investment really.

I understand, how objectively, an Administrator may have thought that it was a good marketing move. They are not spending their hard earned monies on Memberships to Clubs that they have a historic and emotional connection to.

However, both Manly and Newcastle Members, are offended by anyone who actively work against their Club's success

Joey being a Specialist Coach, is a great strategy though - may he help Manly earn their Wins!

I'm not sure how you can describe someone as a f----- moron when clearly his brain was operating at least 1-2 plays ahead of most of his team mates and competitors in every game over such a long period of time.

This is a great move in my book and I don't have any dramas with him being an ambassador for the Club, irrespective of what he may or may not have done in the past.

As I mentioned in another thread, the term ambassador was poorly chosen. He will not be a club or membership ambassador, rather will attend various events to speak and host.

Great to have him on board in a coaching / training capacity, and will be great to have an immortal at / speaking / hosting various events but I'd agree "Ambassador" is not the word for him, and to me the face(s) of the membership campaign should be none other than our two captains.

Anyway I have already "earned my wings" so who is (are) the faces won't affect me.

Bring on March 2013....are we there yet???

I dont see why people are being so negative for...

Andrew Johns signing with us EXCLUSIVELY is massive, so what if he has done a few bad things in the past, WHO HASNT? so what if he is a newcastle boy... can anyone assure us that every single member of our coaching staff is 100% Manly and not been involved with another club? i think its awesome that he is willing to turn all other clubs away including newcastle just to help us.

I take my hat off to Dave Perry for making this happen, after the des debarkle i was a massive critic of Dave but since then he has just proven over and over again that he is doing everything in his power to contribute to the success of this club on and off the field.
