Yes, the preferred PM polling was accurate. Don't believe it?

Results of a survey published just yesterday:
"Of 60 locals surveyed ... 48 said good riddance to Mr Abbott, 11 said they were sad to see him go and one person was indifferent."

Where was the survey? Construction site? Uni?

Nope. It was in the streets of Tony Abbott's blue ribbon Liberal seat of Warringah, and done by the Manly Daily.
Yeah I saw that - Rupert having a last ditch cry more like it.

48/60 said good riddance yet if there was an election before he got the punt you reckon Tony would have lost his seat?

Polls used to be wildly inaccurate but in recent federal elections they have been close to spot on , in a general sense.

There's always seats that don't go the way the polls go, but overall on a 2PP basis they seem to be getting accurate.

Which , IMO, is one of the reasons we have seen three sitting PM's ousted, all because of polling suggesting their party was doomed.

I'm unashamedly a conservative voter but I was disgusted at the way the two Labor PM's were knifed and equally disgusted at Mondays outcome.

Can't say I was an Abbot fan , not even from day one but he, like Rudd ( who to be honest I didn't mind) deserved to have his day at the polls ( the ones that really count).

Let's face it very few of us on here will be happy with whichever person is the Prime Minister, half of you hate Abbot, half of you hate Turnbull, half of you hate Shorten.

You can rave on about how bad Abbott has been, but let's not forget th debacle that was the last Labor government.

So, let's assume the ABC/ Fairfax ( which largely control the way you feel about the conservative Government) begins to shaft Turnbull ( and thy will), by next election you'll want to ditch him AND then in comes the CFMEU and Shorten ( which the other half of you hate).

News Ltd now ramp up and bring down Shorten, he might last 2 years but certainly not a full term, then up steps who??? Penny Wong ( she'd have to give up a Senate seat and be parachuted into the lower house), and then here we go again, thE media will attack and attack until she's had her use by date.

The point I'm making here is ( and this is happening world wide in similar democracies ) that the 24 hours news cycle, the 30 second grab is designed for PM's to be crucified.

Not withstanding some of Tony's " captains calls" we're just plain terrible and Hockey should never have been treasurer but the current government , and indeed the last one, did do some good work.....only trouble is we never got to hear about it.

Sorry, this shouldn't be on a football forum BUT someone else started it !!
I still want to know who is going to replace Foran

That's exactly the point. Abbott even lost the support of stitched-on lifetime right-wing voters.

After he became Prime Minister and faced an internal Liberal Party revolt, Abbott claimed a Prime Minister deserved to stay until the election. How convenient for Abbott to hold this view.

The system Abbott described is the American system of Presidential elections. In America they specifically vote for a President. In Australia we never voted for President Abbott, as much as his out of control ego wants to believe this. We vote for local members of Parliament in the lower house, with those members attached to parties. And in the senate we vote for parties (with members identified in order).

It is simple. The Libs decided their leader was a liability and voted him out - in exactly the same way as they voted him in.

It's a bit rich for Abbott to whinge about the spill. Abbott initiated the spill against Turnbull to get into power by resigning from his opposition front bench. And Turnbull did likewise to Abbott. Rudd-Gillard-Rudd became Turnbull-Abbott-Turnbull.

One of the other issues is that even though you vote for a local member there is so much emphasis on which party is in power these days that some of the good ones loose their seats to morons (both ways) thus watering down the talent pool.

NSW state Labor lost some good politicians to be replaced with hacks who of course lost their seat back next election to some new Labor hack.

Well stay tuned @Rex because as Mr Turnbull has now achieved his grand ambition to become Prime Minister, as a leader of the republican movement, the next goal he might set himself is to become the President of the Republic of Australia. That is, if he has the constitution for it.:)

Polls are like television ratings. They take the figures and blow them up into something justifiable.

I never take polls seriously myself because I know they've asked about 100 people (and the top 7 answers are on the board :p ) and come up with figures for just about the whole country. This morning on Today they showed a poll which says that since Turdbull got sworn in a couple of days ago, Liberal have improved to a 51% approval rating (up 3 points), in the '2 party prefered' crap and are leading Labour for the first time since god knows when. Which arse did they pull those figures from? From what I've seen on Facebook and Twitter, most think its a case of same $hit, different day with the change of PM.

Take polls with a grain of salt.

$358,000 debt to council raises fresh Brookvale Oval fears

Manly are allegedly $358,000 in arrears in hiring fee payments to Warringah Council for Brookvale Oval, raising fresh fears about whether games will be staged at the traditional ground next year and beyond.

The parties are in mediation after the Sea Eagles failed to pay their rates, claiming the ground hasn't been maintained to proper standards. The club is pointing to the fact 14 lower-grade games were moved away from the venue because the surface was deemed unusable for a portion of the season.

The council claims the total owing for the year will be $403,000, with $358,000 currently due. Manly had not attempted to pay any fees until late this week, when an offer of $150,000 was made pending a renegotiation of next year's hiring fees. However, the council has rejected the offer and claims there will be no discussions about 2016 rates until this season's impasse has been resolved. Debt collectors will be engaged in an attempt to recoup the outstanding monies.

In a further twist, the leadership coup that ousted Tony Abbott as Prime Minister raises questions about whether the Federal Government's $10 million commitment to Brookvale Oval still stands. Those developments, coupled with the game's investment shift to larger stadiums, raise fears about whether NRL fixtures will continue to be held at "Fortress Brookvale".

There was an outcry over the state of the surface for a clash between Manly and Canterbury in March due to the sandy and patchy state of the field. No NRL matches were shifted while the pitch was re-turfed because a quirk in the draw ensured the Sea Eagles were on the road for the next series of games. But the club is aggrieved because lower-grade fixtures, two of them televised, were shifted.

Warringah Council stated it has "successfully maintained Brookvale Oval to NRL standards for decades" and claims to have committed 900 man hours, mowed the surface 90 times and re-turfed 60-80 per cent of the field this year.

"We've been supporting the Sea Eagles for decades and obviously want to see them stay at Brookie but it's not fair that they are ripping off ratepayers to stay afloat," said they mayor of Warringah Michael Regan.

"Maybe the fans are right when they say that the NRL and the Penns' want to move to Gosford and are using Council as a scapegoat so they can blame us for the decision.

"The truth is, Warringah's ratepayers are effectively subsidising them by $600,000 a year already. If they don't pay their bills, ratepayers will have a massive Sea Eagles tax they never agreed to.

"The club's solution to fund Brookie is two 30 storey towers on public parkland they don't own, that planning controls don't allow and infrastructure won't support.

"They signed this lease and they need to pay their rent like everyone else - every mum and dad, every sporting group and every private business.

"And they make substantial revenue out of the venue, maybe they need to cut their costs and be more efficient like every other business.'

Manly officials said the hiring rates are not comparable to those of other clubs and claim it costs an average of $45,000 per game just to open the gates. Sea Eagles chief financial officer Neil Bare said the club had attempted to renegotiate a new rate with council as soon as there was an ownership change in the off-season, with a view to striking a deal that would extend beyond the current 12-month contract. "Brookvale Oval is our spiritual ground and we always want it to be that," Bare said.

"We know Warringah Council want to support the Sea Eagles and know we're an important part of the community. It's just arriving at something in the future that's sustainable for both of us. We just want a sustainable hire arrangement for the ground. Given how much we provide to the community in terms of over 700 hours of community-related visits, we provide more back than just a casual hirer. We think that should be heavily considered when we look at an arrangement going forward."

Just read that abbott has to host his school reunion this weekend.

wasn't that the artists impression in the Manly Daily ? looked bloody horrible. I'm sure a developer somewhere would be salivating. All at the Pittwater Road end. It's fine as it is and anyone who needs plastic seats should attend more games at Parramatta and anywhere else this poxy plastic stadium dream is a reality.

Good article on methods and limitations of the various polling sources:

If you think polling is problematic, then look at the deficiencies in the testing of the drugs we are prescribed by doctors:
