100% right he did put the fire out !

A good coach will light the fire bigger !
It's quite common that for teams like us, half time can be the worst thing. I even said that to my wife yesterday. We finally put a good 40 minutes together then half time comes and sucks all your momentum. By the time the game gets going again momentum is gone.

I was pleasantly surprised by the start to the 2nd half. Good early defence against repeat sets. Then we got repeat sets with nice little kicks, and then a try. Next minute ...

I'm kinda right there with you. I'm getting older, perhaps less tolerant of garbage in my life. It's one thing to love and support your team, as I have for decades, but I'm questioning the need to put myself through misery for a team that does not reflect the Manly I loved and respected.

I know the cliches of "bandwagon fans", "sticking with your team through thick and thin", etc... and I've bought into the same beliefs for most my life... However, I don't wanna support a team just because of their colours or past accomplishments. I wanna support my team because it reflects the values that I love and respect. I see very little hardness, mental toughness or sacrifice for your team in this current assembly. I feel for those few who do seem to still understand and strive for those values, but they are a minority
Yep totally agree with you HK. I'm 45 now and don't believe in blind faith any more. I want to know the club is striving to create those values that identify what is Manly.
The sad reality is, Manly are a victim of their own success and the star players had too much power resulting in a poor development system and lack of investment in junior teams. Without a feeder system the dips between successful periods is far more dramatic (think 1980, 1989, 1999 and now 2016). The club is forced to hurriedly buy up players who are leftover unwanted players of high value who are either over the hill (Myles), or made available due to their lack of commitment and effectiveness (Walker, Brown) in their current teams. Not to mention our now Penrith coaching staff with 45% win records.
I don't want to support these players and coaches until they buy into the Manly culture. The Manly culture is one of intimidation, fire, integrity and pride. Other than maybe Barrett (who is still questionable with his ability), I don't see it. The club is not involving us fans or care about us either. they just want our money and put out slogans, but have no blueprint to weed out the mediocre unmotivated players who stain the Manly team. There should be a standard to live up to,
So I'll stay on here, have a good whinge, and enjoy the comraderie with you blokes and ladies who feel just like me, and let them play. Unless they win the next two, the rest of the season is going through the motions. That team has a hell of a lot to answer for. There is more Manly identity in the Catalans maybe I'll watch them.

We're almost the same age, NYE and perhaps a product of our time. I agree with much you have outlined here, but I also suspect there is a bigger problem around the commercialised professionalism of sport. The qualities you listed, that we value most highly, have become the fodder of branding and PR departments. They merely inform the latest slogan, catchphrase or marketing drive to sell the product... and the smell of contrived values is rank.

It's definitely not the same as it once was. The message coming from management is completely opposite with reality, and I'm sick of being fooled.
"we are going in the right direction"
"stick with us"
No, they are going in the wrong direction. The aura of Manly is lost. Worst results at Brookvale in 70 years of history - what a way to celebrate.
