5 Coaches in 30 Years.

With Des continuing next year we have had 5 different coaches in 30 years.

Bob Fulton – 1983–1988 and 1993–1999
Alan Thompson – 1989
Graham Lowe – 1990–1992
Peter Sharp – 1999 and 2003 (includes Northern Eagles)
Des Hasler – 2004–present

I note the Broncos have used 3 coaches in 25 years, but also they have had 3 different coaches in the last 4 years.

For the sake of comparison Cronulla have used 9 in this time, as have Parramatta. The Roosters 12.

Taking it further, since Wally O'Connell returned to the Club in 1966, we've only had 10 coaches in 46 seasons. At the current rate, it might only be 10 coaches after 50 seasons.

Dont forget Ray Ritchie - 1981-82 - can still remember the vision of him puffing away on his smoke on the sideline in the 1982 grand final while we were getting towelled up by Parra.

Fulton V Hasler. Who is the better coach? I always thought Bozo would never be bettered as Manly coach but Hasler has surpassed him in my mind. Bozo always had much more to work with than what Dessie has. Photo finish but Dessie is the man for mine.

Interesting too that the coaches that took us to GFs but never won one, were also current or ex-Manly players. Wally O was the Capt/Coach in 1951, but was injured and didn't play. Arko in 57 and 59. Hunter in 68 and Ritchie in 82. The Club never achieved the same levels of success with outsiders.
