ITS hard to believe just how quickly the last decade has flown by.

This time 10 Years ago the website (Alternate Eagles at that point in time) was in its infancy.

Our decade of dominance was having its foundations put in place and it was truly an exciting time to be a manly fan after the very real possibility we'd had our beloved side taken from us for good.

So in contrast to the doom and gloom flooding the website at the present time, I thought it would be a neat idea to go back in time 10 years this week and see what was making forum gossip before we had any idea what we were in for the following seasons.

Alternate Match Preview - We must beat the Mixo Vermin
    By: Matabele

    http://silvertails.net/threads/alternate-match-preview-we-must-beat-the-mixo-vermin.1265/

What an excellent start to the season Manly has had. A gloom and doom merchant like myself has been rendered speechless by a 4 wins in five matches and some high profile scalps taken a long the way. We find ourselves proudly atop the NRL ladder and entering into a game where we are raging hot favourites. Its been a long time between drinks.

    Watching the game on NRL.com

Just been watching the game again on NRL.com (I have to do this more often.

    The immediate standouts are

    - Watmough
    - Matai

I am really becoming a fan of Matai's he is great in attack and confident in defense. He doesnt stand out in defense but does his job.

The Sea Eagles Scrambling defense is awesome. Someone misses a tackle and the player is then swallowed by 2 or 3 players all of a sudden, I actually saw 4 go into one cover tackle.

The defense moves up in a bow. an almost straight line but their defense is very good and it always means our fast men are moving up in time to cover.

Very impressed with watching this on TV. They really are playing good football

Police Corruption = Bulldogs in Coffs Harbour

    By: Canteen Worker

    http://silvertails.net/threads/police-corruption-bulldogs-in-coffs-harbour.1276/

just heard on the news that 5 of the topNSW policemen are under investigation by the Police Integrity Commission and have all been stood down, including the Deputy Commissioner.

Channel 9 News quoted the Bulldogs Coffs Harbour Rape Allegations in 2004 as allegedly being at the centre of the matter.

Interesting development as the stench of that event last year still pervades the scene!!!

    Manlys Training Facilities
    By: gotsy

    http://silvertails.net/threads/manlys-training-facilities.1248/

Last month I visited the Manly side in training and checked out their so called "state of the art" training facilities. Until I saw what they were working with I didnt beleive it. With the facilities in which our club has, we should be right in the running to keep up our form for the whole season and finsh minor premiers. They have facilites such as pool, gym athletics track, and numerous fitness testing equipment. You just have to give the Manly club a huge wrap.

    Brookie

What do you think of Brookvale Oval. Does it need upgrading, such as new lights, maybe a new grandstand or even a whole new structure. I think there is only one thing which needs to be upgraded. The lights we have are BAD. Lets gets some new ones and host a few more night games. What do you think???

Congratulations Byso & jodie on their new Baby Girl
    By: Dan

    http://silvertails.net/threads/congratulations-byso-jodie-on-their-new-baby-girl.1333/

I just got off the phone from byso.

Holly Maree Brasier was bron at 10:37 this morning weighing in at 8 pounds.

    Apparantly a gorgous little girl.

Jodie and holly ar eboth happy, healthy and doing well. Byso sounds over the moon and a bit our of it with joy.

In typical form everything was captured by byso on both Camera and video. Apparantly he was fliming with his left and snapping with his right.

So on behalf of all of the Alternate Eagles, vicky and I as well.

    Congratulations byso and Jodie

    MATAI MUST STAY
    By: bold_eagle

    http://silvertails.net/threads/matai-must-stay.1345/

from the first game he played he showed he has skill.
works very hard in defence and is exceptional when it come to hitting the ball up when the forwards are getting set. how ever for him to play he will have to be comfortable on the other side of the field. If this happens i have no doubt he will do a great job, he is a real team player!
Does anyone know whats going on with Ashley Alberts? he is not listed in premier league and i thought he was ready to go.

Manly all over the papers today
    By: canteen worker

    http://silvertails.net/threads/manly-all-over-the-papers-today.1373/

Great to see the headline: Why the Sea Eagles are Number 1.

Both Herald and Telly are covering extensive stories on Manly - see front page for some. In the Main Game section of the Terrorgraph there is a double page feature on Anthony Watmough.

Don't know about you but I worry just a bit about this sort of talk on the eve of a big game. There is a lot of pressure on us tonight and all the paper talk is tomorrow's fish and chips wrappers unless we turn up to play.

Articles are all good but I am a little wary of announcing that we are the real deal prematurely.

    Ryans analysis

In the 1st 10-15 minutes of the game, we actually defended quite well, and I almost started to think the momentum was shifting our way, even after being down by 6-0, and possession heavily against us........

Surely that must be the entire thread list. We lost about 100000 posts and threads about 8 years ago which is a shame

    Thanks Flip great read.
Amazing how you can pretty know the strengths of a players (ie Matai) after one game!. Doesnt bode well for Williame :p
Everything being said though, you can't stop the negativity. The fact that Manly are favourites for their first ever wooden spoon with B.Stewart, Cherry, Foran, Killer, Matai on the books is nothing sort of disgraceful/unacceptable.

Gotta laugh at Dan's early comment that Matai doesn't stand out in defence! How many big forwards would beg to differ now.

2005 was a funny season. Looked like world beaters at the halfway mark with a 9-3 record. It all came crashing down with a horrible thrashing to a hopeless Souths side. Ended up being 3-12 in the 2nd half of the season which included a record loss to the Sharks.

Actually, as great as Des was for us, our two biggest ever losses came under his reign. Before the 2004 thrashing against the Panthers, our biggest ever loss was by 50 points and that was set way back in the year that we entered professional rugby league.
